Use a plain background.
Check the area behind your subject before taking the picture. A plain background shows off the subject you are photographing. You can also use a wide aperture to blur the background to bring the subject into being the focus of the image.

f:5.6, shutter 1/200, iso:400
Look for trees or poles behind head and keep in mind that uncluttered background will emphasis your subject instead of distract.
